The
Rethinking Economics India Network is hosting a four-part
series of events on Capitalism and Patriarchy. The
opening event is on Financialization and the Crisis
of Capitalism. It aims to bring to attention the evolution
of capitalism as a global economic system while highlighting
the role of financialization, especially in the Global
South. Join us for an interactive panel discussion
as we engage with themes of macroeconomics, the political
economy of finance, the social history of capitalism.
The Speakers
Anwar Shaikh is Professor
of Economics at the Graduate Faculty of Political
and Social Science of the New School University. He
is an Associate Editor of the Cambridge Journal of
Economics and was a Senior Scholar and member of the
Macro Modeling Team at the Levy Economics Institute
of Bard College. His books include Capitalism: Competition,
Conflict, Crises; Globalization, and the Myths of
Free Trade; and Measuring the Wealth of Nations: The
Political Economy of National Accounts with E. Ahmet
Tonak.
C.P. Chandrashekar has retired
as a Professor of Economics at the Center for Economic
Studies and Planning, School of Social Sciences, at
the Jawaharlal Nehru University. His research expertise
includes applied macroeconomics and developmental
economics with a focus on industry and finance. He
is a regular columnist for Frontline Magazine and
BusinessLine finance daily and the IDEAs.
Anush Kapadia is at IIT
Bombay in the Sociology group of the Department of
Humanities and Social Sciences; he is also an associate
faculty with the Centre for Policy Studies at IIT
Bombay. He works on the political economy of money
and financial systems.
The Organizers
The Rethinking Economics India Network aims to bring
together an ecosystem of stakeholders to scale collaborative
efforts for teaching, learning and discussion. It
looks to impact all those who participate in a society
shaped by economic ideas – not just the academic economist,
but rather the public at large.
