Patnaik explains the paradoxical emergence of excess
supply of foodgrains in the neoliberal era despite
lower foodgrain growth and higher GDP growth. This
reflects squeezed real incomes of the agriculture-dependent
population, because of falling agricultural output
growth rates and declinesin real purchasing power
per unit of output.
